Vardavela koptu Shaker ekibi suya düştü

Geçen hafta sonu yapılan Kalamış Yelken 60. Yıl Eurofence-Demma Kupası’nda ben de Keyif 60 ekibiyle yarıştım. Ekip adının hakkını her zaman veriyor ve keyifli bir şekilde yarışıyor. Üstüne bir de IRC 2’de birinciliği alınca bir yarışçı daha ne ister ki... Ama anlatacağım ve aşağıda videosunu izleyebileceğiniz olay başka...

Yarışta hava 30 knot’ları buldu, özellikle de cumartesi günü yapılan Boğaz etabında. Olay da tam gözümüzün önünde gerçekleşti. Keyif 60 ekibi olarak Fatih Sultan Mehmet Köprüsü’ne hızla yaklaşırken önümüzden de Shaker teknesi son hız gidiyordu. Ekibimizden Ercüment Gümrük birden “Denizde birileri var” diye bağırdı. Sonra etrafımızda dolaşan ve üzerinde iki kişinin bulunduğu şişme botta bir anda insan sayısı çoğalmaya başladı. Hepsi de ıslak ve can yelekliydi. Biz o sırada denize kaç kişi düştüğünü anlayamadık. Tek görebildiğimiz son derece kalabalık olduklarıydı. Olayı ertesi gün Shaker ekibinden dinledik. Ekipten Halit Mert İşsever şöyle anlattı:

“Fatih Sultan Mehmet Köprüsü’ne yaklaşırken rüzgaraltındaki Medianova ekibinin üstüne çıkmaya çalışıyorduk  ve hepimiz iyice trapeze asıldık. Tam o sırada vardavela teli kopunca trapezdeki beş kişi suya düştü, iki kişi de tutunarak kendini kurtardı. Neyse ki yakınımızda bir bot vardı, bizi kurtardı. Çok moralimiz bozuldu çünkü yarışı önde götürüyorduk. Ama yine de yarışmaya devam ettik ve 13’üncü olduk.”

Büyük tehlike atlatan Shaker ekibine geçmiş olsun diyoruz.

I have been racing with Keyif60 team for the Kalamis Sailing Club`s 60th Year Eurofence-Demma Trophy. We nailed the first place in the IRC2 class. What more would a racer wish for a weekend... However what I will tell is a different story from the same race.

The wind picked up at 30 knots level during the regatta. There was though sailing conditions especially for the Bosphorus leg of the regatta. The incident happened just in front of us.  While we were aproaching Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridge with speed, Shaker from IRC1 class were going as fast as they can against the strong currents of Bosphorus upwind, as fast as they can. Our crew member Ercument Gumruk suddenly screamed "There are people in the water!". Afterwards number of people on the boat that was wandering around increased as they picked people up from the water. All was wet with their lifejackets on. We could not understand how many people were on the water but obviously they were many. We listened the incident from Shaker`s bowman Halit Mert Issever as following:

"While we were passing the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge ,  we were trying to run over the Medianova boat that was on the lee. All crew were hiking as hard as they could. Just at the moment the lifelines broke and 5 people on the rail fell overboard. Two guys help up to the boat and saved themselves. There was a boat that picked us all as the boat was turning back to get us aboard. This put us down a lot as we were going at the head of the fleet considering the handicap. Anyways we did not give up racing and finished 13th."
